Minnesota Medicaid: Billing change for non-emergent transportation

Effective immediately, UnitedHealthcare has assumed the claims processing and payment responsibilities for non-emergent transportation codes for UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Minnesota.

Health care professionals should bill the following non-emergent transportation codes to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan instead of billing MTM, Inc.:

  • HCPCS code A0428: Ambulance service, basic life support, non-emergency transport
  • HCPCS code A0130: Non-emergency transportation: wheelchair van

This change applies to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan members in Minnesota with the following plans:

  • UnitedHealthcare® Families and Children Medical Assistance (PMAP)
  • MinnesotaCare
  • Minnesota Senior Health Options (MSHO)
  • Minnesota Senior Care Plus (MSC+)
  • Special Needs Basic Care (SNBC) plans

What this means for you

If you need to submit a claim for HCPCS code A0428 or A0130, submit your claim to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan instead of MTM, Inc. UnitedHealthcare Community Plan will reimburse you for these services for eligible members of the plans listed above. Please note, we will only reimburse clean claims.

  • Unpaid claims for HCPCS code A0428 that were previously submitted to MTM for dates of service starting Jul. 1, 2022, can be resubmitted to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan until Oct. 1, 2024.
  • Unpaid claims for HCPCS code A0130 that were previously submitted to MTM for dates of service starting Jan. 1, 2022, can be resubmitted until Oct. 1, 2024. We’ll waive timely filing requirements for claims submitted before the Oct. 1, 2024, deadline.
