Arizona Medicaid: Cochlear implants and speech therapy coverage enhancements

As of Oct. 1, 2025, cochlear implants and outpatient speech therapy are covered for UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona members who are ages 21 and over, when the services are deemed medically necessary.

 

This new coverage also includes necessary rehabilitation services to help individuals adjust to and benefit from cochlear implant technology.

Reason for the update

This update is to comply with Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System’s (AHCCCS) recent announcement to expand the cochlear implant and speech therapy coverage. This enhancement removes long-standing exclusions, allowing adults to access vital treatments that improve speech and hearing.
