Real-time BAI codes added for commercial EFT transactions

Beginning in early March 2026, you may see BAI codes 158, 159, 399 or 459 on your bank remittance reports. The codes identify electronic funds transfers (EFTs) made in real time to your tax identification number (TIN). When applied to your TIN, real-time payments help ensure we meet our standards for timely payment. It means the full balance of the funds is released immediately, without the standard 3- to 5-day timeline.

Real-time payments

  • Are applicable only to eligible commercial claim payments
  • Do not alter contracted or state-mandated payment timelines

What you need to know

You must be enrolled in automated clearinghouse (ACH) payments and your bank must support real-time payments. The following information is needed for bank reconciliation:

  • BAI codes 158, 159 and 459 identify real-time payments and may appear in the extended remittance detail report from your bank
  • Real-time payments are identified as PMNT, RRCT, DMCT or TRF in ISO and SWIFT bank reporting tools
  • If you’re using lockbox services with your bank, real-time payments are identified as BAI code 399

You may need to consult with your financial institutions if additional reporting services are required to access extended reference or remittance information.
