North Carolina Medicaid: Appropriate use of CR modifier

On April 15, 2026, the state of North Carolina issued a reminder that the catastrophe/disaster related (CR) modifier isn’t billable outside of federal or state-declared emergencies. Claims submitted with a CR modifier under any other circumstances may be subject to denial or further review.
