Tribal Relation Program

Overview

The mission of the UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Arizona Tribal Relations Program is to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and responsiveness of service delivery and care coordination for Arizona Tribal Nations and tribal members. The program aims to improve health outcomes for Indigenous communities while fostering a foundation of respect, honor and trust.

The Tribal Relations Program is comprised of our tribal liaison and our RN clinical tribal coordinator. Our dedicated tribal liaison is responsible for overall tribal programming management and compliance with tribal-specific contractual deliverables. Our dedicated RN clinical tribal is responsible for addressing the needs from tribes and tribal members related to both physical and behavioral clinical-related matters including, but not limited to, service delivery care coordination of tribal members, clinical advocacy for tribal members, and assistance with care management for tribal members.

Our program serves as the primary point of contact for tribal nations, tribal health facilities, tribal-affiliated entities, and state Medicaid agencies to help with any questions, comments, or concerns that might arise as well as to provide direct service delivery coordination and integrated clinical care coordination.

To further help educate both internal and external audiences, an indigenous tribal cultural competency training was created. The tribal-specific training includes an overview of the following:

  • UnitedHealthcare Community Plan Arizona Tribal Relations Program
  • Landscape of Indigenous Tribal Nations in Arizona
  • Tribal sovereignty
  • Tribal governance
  • Tribal health disparities/Tribal Social Determinants of Health
  • Health care delivery system for American Indians and Alaska Natives
  • Detailed review of commonly utilized tribal health care facilities
  • Continued learning opportunities

To further help support the coordination of communication with tribal nations, the UnitedHealthcare Community Plan Arizona Tribal Relations Program has created statewide tribal-specific contact listings for 1) Tribal Clinical Health Facilities, 2) Tribal Courts, 3) Tribal Crisis Hotlines, and 4) Tribal Detention Centers
